Property Accounting Supervisor Sue Faulker was introduced to Habitat for Humanity in 2007 after her son participated in a Global Village* build in Honduras while in high school. When her younger son had the same opportunity two years later, Sue signed on as part of the parent/teacher group who helped the team raise over $40,000 for the trip, and spent a week in Guatemala building homes for local families. Soon after, she took part in a two-week build in Romania.
Fully committed to the program, Sue completed Team Leader training in 2010 and in 2012 led her first build in Romania. Since that time, she has completed three additional Global Village builds in Portugal.
Unfortunately, Covid shut down the Global Village program, and work continues to get it back up and running. But Sue has stayed involved and is currently a member of the Family Partner Committee at Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa, assisting in transitioning families to their new homes for the organization’s current project, Kemptville Korners, which will be completed this summer.
“I’m a huge believer in giving back to the community,” said Sue. “Habitat is important to me because everyone deserves a safe, clean space to call home. What I also feel is very important is that it is a hand-up not a hand-out. All partner families must put in time (500 hours) towards building their own home, and ultimately building their future.
