TORONTO, July 3, 2019 – Adding to its vibrant portfolio of coworking spaces in Canada and around the world, Spaces, the Amsterdam-born creative workspace company, will be opening its first workspace in Ottawa. The new workspace, which is slated to open in October 2019, will take over the first six floors of a former government building at 66 Slater Street, owned by KingSett Capital which has recently undergone a massive renovation to modernize the building.

Spaces will take over 75,000 square feet, from ground level to floor six, on the high-profile corner of Slater and Elgin Street, steps from Confederation Park and Parliament Hill. Spaces will provide entrepreneurs, SMEs, and large corporations an inspiring European-designed workspace that will feature large collaborative areas, team rooms, dedicated desks, private offices, and fully-equipped meeting rooms. Spaces will also host a full calendar of professional events to bring the community together to meet and share ideas.

“Ottawa has been on the top of our list for a while now,” says Wayne Berger, CEO, IWG Canada and Latin America (IWG owns Spaces). “As Canada’s political epicentre and emerging technology hub, there’s a deep spirit of innovation and leadership in the city that we are excited to support and help elevate. Successful coworking requires a forward-thinking creative spirit — Ottawa has those attributes.

The environmentally-sound and technologically-advanced building is managed by Colonnade BridgePort. It boasts the internationally-recognized green building certification LEED Gold and is working towards the GOLD WIRED Certification – an internationally recognized standard that proves a commercial building has strong, competitive internet capabilities. Building owner, KingSett Capital has invested heavily in the modernization of the building’s interiors — from updating the lobbies, common areas and elevators — to attract new and diverse companies migrating downtown to be a part of the emerging technology   ecosystem.

“The building has been completely repositioned to attract a dynamic tenant like Spaces,” says Hugh Gorman, CEO of Colonnade BridgePort. “Downtown Ottawa is exploding right now with young companies and diverse talent, and Spaces is the perfect complement. Together with our client KingSett Capital, we can’t wait to see what this vibrant new workspace community brings to our city.”

Spaces has 185 locations in 54 countries and 205 cities around the world. In Canada, it has locations in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, and will soon be opening in Ottawa.
