City-wide barbecues to help raise funds for cancer research

May 2010

Colonnade Management will be hosting its tenant barbecues throughout Ottawa again this summer, with all funds raised going to cancer research.

Colonnade will be firing up the grills once again this summer to feed more than 5,000 occupants of its properties located across Ottawa. The barbecues are hosted by the property management company each year as a thank you to its tenants and include a complimentary barbecue lunch. The events also provide an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for local charities, with this year’s proceeds going to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation in support of cancer research.

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation recently completed its 20-20 Campaign to raise $20 million in 20 months for the expansion of The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. The next task is to raise $5 million to complete the new Centre for Innovative Cancer Research to be housed within the cancer centre. The new research facility will provide scientists with state-of-the-art equipment to improve the speed at which they can develop new treatments and initiate clinical trials in patients. This includes current research into developing cancer fighting viruses and advances in preventing, diagnosing and treating breast cancer. Colonnade’s goal this summer is to raise a total of $8,000 to help The Ottawa Hospital complete this project.
